This is a double projection video work with an image of a woman
walking in and out of the sea. Her body emerges from the horizon
and walks towards the viewer, through the sea and up to the beach
until it fills the frame. At this point, the image disappears from
the sight and reappears on the other, to show the back of her body
filling the frame, then recending as she walks down the beach into
the sea until she disappears in the horizon. Passivity of one's viewing
experience is challenged by the physical impact of the work when
the image jumps between the two screens as if it penetrates through
the body of viewer in present moment of the life cycle.
向かい合う二面のスクリーンには、交互にバックプロジェクションによる映像が
大音量の波音と共に投影される。どちらか一方のスクリーンに海岸から水平線
を見渡す映像が現れる。水平線から徐々に女が歩み寄って来る。身体が
スクリーンを満たした瞬間、視界から消え、向かい合う背後のスクリーンに
背をむけて現れ、再び海に還っていく。 海から現れては還るサイクルは、
生と死、過去・現在・未来の循環を暗示する。映像が二つのスクリーンを移行
するとき、間に立つ観客を通り抜ける様な感覚を呼び起こし、受身的な作品体験に
身体的な現実感・インパクトを与え、サイクルの一部へと引き込む。
